Since then, the Tahoe National Forest included about 32 miles of trails in question into an existing assessment study \u2014 the East Zone Connect Project \u2014 that the USFS approved for Class 1 e-bike use in December 2020.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Back Country Horsemen of America, one of the plaintiffs, participated in the process.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe were pleased to find that the Forest Service checked all the necessary boxes in its examination of its proposal to allow Class 1 e-bike use on otherwise non-motorized trails,\u201d said Randy Rasmussen, director of public lands and recreation for the Back Country Horsemen of America. \u201cWe did not object to, nor litigate, the outcome of the East Zone Connect Project.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bicycleretailer.com\/industry-news\/2019\/11\/19\/tahoe-national-forest-sued-allowing-e-bikes-non-motorized-trails-without#.YgQM2S1h0b0\">the lawsuit<\/a>, before opening non-motorized trails to e-bike use, the Tahoe National Forest should have had a public study that includes analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act to assess the impact of the decision.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Other plaintiffs included the Backcountry Horsemen of California, The Wilderness Society, the Gold Country Trails Council, and the Forest Issues Group.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cTo be clear, on the e-bike topic, the BCHA has always been about process, meaning that the public needs to be involved in federal agency decisions regarding where, and under what circumstances, e-bikes are allowed on existing trails enjoyed by the public,\u201d Rasmussen said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-image field-type-image field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"colorbox init-colorbox-processed cboxElement\" title=\"Lawsuit allowing e-bikes in Tahoe National Forest settled\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bicycleretailer.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/colorbox_popup\/public\/images\/article\/image_0.gif?itok=xjVR7JSL\" data-colorbox-gallery=\"gallery-node-34945-NJJZFCZioTk\" data-cbox-img-attrs=\"{&quot;title&quot;: &quot;&quot;, &quot;alt&quot;: &quot;&quot;}\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bicycleretailer.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/article_primary_image\/public\/images\/article\/image_0.gif?itok=kTC9wYTc\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><span class=\"caption\">Lawsuit allowing e-bikes in Tahoe National Forest settled<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SACRAMENTO (BRAIN) \u2014 The group of trail and forest advocates settled its federal lawsuit filed in 2019 against the U.S. Forest Service, whom it said allowed Class 1 e-bikes on non-motorized trails in the Tahoe National Forest without conducting a public study.
