Viewpoints<br \/>\nof \u0093city\u0094 people often are so foreign to our way of thinking we\u0092d never consider<br \/>\nthem.<\/p>\n<p>To illustrate the increasing number of urbanites checking out the backcountry,<br \/>\njournalist Tom Wharton read a few actual comments collected last year from<br \/>\nregistration sheets and comment cards at entrances to the Bridger Wilderness in<br \/>\nWyoming\u0092s Wind River Mountains.<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Trails need to be wider so people can walk while holding hands.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Instead of a permit system or regulations, the Forest Service needs to reduce world-wide population growth to limit the number of visitors to wilderness.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Ban walking sticks in the wilderness.\u00a0 Hikers that use walking sticks are more likely to chase animals.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093All the mile markers are missing this year.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Found a smoldering cigarette left by a horse.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Trail needs to be reconstructed.\u00a0 Please avoid building trails that go uphill.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Too many bugs and leeches and spiders and spider webs.\u00a0 Please spray wilderness to rid the area of these pests.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Please pave the trails so they can be plowed of snow during the winter.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Chairlifts need to be in some places so that we can get to wonderful views without having to hike to them.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093The coyotes made too much noise last night and kept me awake.\u00a0 Please eradicate these annoying animals.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093A small deer came into my camp and stole my jar of pickles.\u00a0 Is there a way I can get reimbursed?\u00a0 Please call me at \u0085.\u0094<br \/>\n\u0095\u00a0 \u0093Reflectors need to be placed on trees every fifty feet so people can hike at night with flashlights.\u0094<\/p>\n<p>Comments such as these reinforce our belief the best way to preserve our heritage of using horses in the backcountry is strong and active local Back Country Horsemen units.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bchu.com\" title=\"website\" target=\"_blank\">Back Country Horsemen of Utah<\/a> has a excellent website that contains a lot of timely and useful information, I highly recommend that you visit it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Say that again\u0085 With all the public land available for Utah\u0092s horsemen to ride, we often have a difficult time realizing the threat of restrictions and regulations is real.\u00a0 However, not every citizen in the United States shares our view of Wilderness.
